The Funkhaus on Wallrafplatz, built between 1948 and 1952 on the ruins of the bombed-out Hotel Monopol, was a major architectural project of the post-war period. Inaugurated on June 21, 1952, it was considered the most modern radio building in Europe.
The Funkhaus - Cafe, Bar, Restaurant - is designed in the style of the 1950s, based on the former tea room, which was a popular meeting place. High windows and lots of light characterize the room. Photos from the WDR Funkhaus in the 1950s take guests back in time.
